7 Ways to Consider Your Wedding Guests’ Experience

While your wedding day should be a reflection of you as a couple, guest comfort is always something to keep top of mind for a memorable celebration. Here are some thoughtful ways to consider the comfort and experience of your guests throughout your wedding day.

1. Climate Control

Weather can be unpredictable, especially for Midwest weddings, and ensuring your guests are comfortable regardless of the season is vital. Outdoor weddings can be a toss-up when it comes to weather, so you’ll need to be prepared for either side of the weather spectrum, including tents and misting fans for hot weather or portable heaters and blankets for cold.

Tamory Hall is fully climate controlled, but not all indoor wedding venues are. If you’re planning an indoor wedding, make sure the venue has adequate heating or air conditioning.

2. Cocktail Hour Refreshments

Keeping your guests well-fed and hydrated is key to their comfort and enjoyment. This is especially important during cocktail hour.

The time between ceremony and reception often falls at a time where guests will start to feel those hunger pangs. Consider snacks, passed hors d'oeuvres or a charcuterie table to tide guests over until dinner is served.

Cocktail hour is also a great time for guests to enjoy a complimentary signature cocktail from the bar.

3. Acoustics Quality

A large benefit of hosting an indoor wedding is having a controlled environment that offers better acoustics for live music, speeches and DJ’s. Access to AV and sound equipment at Tamory Hall is included with our wedding packages, but some venues may require that you rent your own.

Ensure your guests will be able to hear those vows, toasts and first dance songs clearly.

4. Handicap Accessibility

Consider the needs of all your guests, including those with disabilities or mobility issues.

  • Venue Accessibility: Choose a venue with ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms.

  • Seating Arrangements: Reserve seating for elderly guests or those with mobility issues near the front or in easily accessible areas.

5. Downtime Seating

Your wedding party may spend the entire reception out on the dance floor, but some guests may enjoy quieter spaces. Intentional areas for lounging are a great option for guests who want to visit or take a break from the dance floor.

6. Communication

Keep your guests informed about the schedule and any changes that might occur.

  • Wedding Website: A wedding website can be a great resource for guests to find information about the schedule, venue, directions, and accommodation options.

  • Signage and Programs: Clear signage and printed programs can help guide guests through the day's events.

7. Late Night Snacks

The wedding snack trend is here to stay—and guests love the additional touch!

Traditionally, late night snacks are served sometime between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. or shortly after the cake is cut.

Whether you serve mini sliders, pizza or bring in a food truck, your wedding guests who have spent the night on the dance floor will be thankful.

As you’re planning the special touches for your day, always keep guests top-of-mind. Think back on weddings you’ve been a guest of. What have you enjoyed? What had room for improvement? By taking these steps, you can create a comfortable and memorable experience for your guests, allowing them to fully partake in the joy and celebration of your special day. Happy planning!
